Hailing from Vancouver, WA, the four piece band Restruct have released their debut CD entitled Built Back Up From Self-Destruction. This Modern Rock disc consists of melodic power rock, mixed with acoustic styling's and ballad's that would find a home with fans of today's Modern Rock radio. Filled with catchy melodies, fans of Three Days Grace, Default and Breaking Benjamin will find Restruct up their alley.
While Restruct definitely does not reinvent the Hard Rock 'n Roll wheel, they have found their niche with their take on the melodic, "I've been down and now I'm going to rise up to win" mentality of a lot of bands these days. Not quite as much angst as has fueled past eras, but about as much as most current bands who tend to whine more than anything else. Restruct do seem to have the knack of dropping in the "get stuck in your head" chorus line. Whether it be in a rocker of a tune like, "Drag Me Down", CD opener "Change", or the acoustic pseudo tear jerker of a ballad and complete with string orchestration, "To The Brim", these guys find a way of getting a catchy melody line stuck in your head, for sure.
Production of Built Back Up From Self-Destruction is solid, with punchy drums pushing through the mix as well the vocals and guitars both being clean and clear. Vocals remind me instantly of Papa Roach (and maybe a tad too much), while the guitar work is pretty solid. The melodic nature of Restruct is allowed to shine through with this production, with vocals being clear and unmuddled and letting their big sweeping chorus' resonate.
On a whole, this record is pretty much mid paced. It features a mix of rockers, ballads and radio friendly fare for 2010. Not too heavy and not too light and if you are a fan of Alternative/Modern Rock radio, Restruct should be on your radar. They serve up sing-a-long melodies and lyrics that I'm sure will mean a lot to fans in that 18-25 year old demo. If this is your bag, check out Restruct today, they will be on your playlist for a while, I'm sure.
