This four song EP Vengeful And Obstinate is by the band Divine Eve, offering a taste of what may be to come in 2010, as Vengeful And Obstinate will be followed by Divine Eve's first full length release.
Divine Eve originally started out in 1992 and did release some material, and then due to problems within the band they broke up in 1995. The Doom/Death metal band from Dallas, Texas actually reformed a few years, when three of the four original band members had decided to give it another go. Those three are Matt Killen - drums/backing vocals , Xan Hammack -rhythm/lead guitar/vocals and Michael Sleavin - rhythm guitar/vocals.
The songs of Divine Eve are enjoyable and heavy, if anything could be changed then it's the production. While it isn't that bad and suitable for the most part, the sound could be improved upon especially some of the guitars. But if Divine Eve was aiming for an older style feel with this EPs production then they have succeeded. The sounds of a burning fire ignites the metal of "Whispers Of Fire", while the appearance of horns introduce slow doomster "The Ravages Of Heathen Men", both of these being good tracks. "Vindication" picks up the pace and following that there's more doom metal with "Grievous Ascendance".
Of course being an EP Vengeful And Obstinate is quite short, but there is adequate material on here to be able to gauge whether Divine Eve are in fact your kind of old school Doom/Death band.
