I love it when I'm wrong! I mean, it's cool to find out that something you thought would suck, is actually good.
Avsky is a Swedish duo that saw the light in 2002. After two demos, they released their debut album, Humanity Plague, in 2007. 2010 is the year of their third and their second on Moribund Records. This act is all about black metal. They don't re-invent the genre as such, but they put all their soul to create dark music with lots of ambience. No, not the keyboard type of ambience, although there bits of that too, especially, if not only, in the opening track "As the Mountains Collapse". The guitar work is huge, beefed by powerful bass lines. This makes the strong riffing sounds more crushing and juicy. Then you have those freezing distorted arpeggios that add a doom atmosphere. To make things even better, many parts are done with a moderate tempo. Yes, mid paced black metal is doomly wicked to the bone! Intricacy, harmonies and melody are no strangers to guitar player AE. You also have the wicked, and sometimes theatrical, vocals of OT that really help in creating that special vibe. His skin beating is matching the powerfulness of AE, while demonstrating ability to accompany and follow the various tempos and moods.
So hell, Scorn was a nice kick for me with cool long lasting anthems such as: " As the Mountains Collapse", the mighty crushing "Dead End, the clean & melodious instrumental "I'm Beyond" and the juicy title track.
