Blood Cult: We are the Cult of the Plains

No but, is this a joke or what? Looks like it is a real CD coming from a real label…Blood Cult is a trio from the States, with Justin on bass, Lewy Hacket ( with a cowboy hat…) on drums and the Rev.Jr Preston (vocals and guitar). All of them are: "wanted for various violent and musical offenses" according to the promo sheet and shooting…

In any case, we have a trio made of the only rednecks claiming to be a black metal act. For one thing, is not a comical genre and when you see one of them wearing a cowboy hat, you know it's going to be bad. Blood Cult sort of put together in the same blender Alice Cooper (the early days), ZZ Top and Darkthrone. I like southern rock, blues and black metal, but these guys failed in putting these genres together, besides I don't think they are really compatible. You have an average bass and drum player backing up a pretty good guitar player and a bad vocalist. The last two being the same person, you have a problem right there. By good guitar player, I meant that the guys can play well and he takes a huge place in the sound structure. Guitar solos that are often over lasting don't really help the songs, and they are frequent. He can come up with good southern rock riffing here and there though. His raspy vocals are comical and his clean voice bears high pitches unfortunately. Their attempt at making black metal is closely resembling a bastard son of late 70's punk and an un-interesting raw black metal act.

We are the Cult of the Plains is sometimes entertaining, although I can't help thinking Blood Cult is no serious act, nor does it will have a lasting impression in the underground scene.
