From Sweden comes the act known as Lustre, the one-man project of Nachtzeit, and this new release A Glimpse of Glory. Basically three long tracks of creepy, atmospheric black metal, dripping with eerie keyboard soundscapes, nature sounds, deathly vocal rasps, and the occasional thunderous riff & drum blasts. You either love this sort of thing or you don't, as its highly likely there's going to be any sort of middle ground. The keyboard tapestries are actually quite compelling & dramatic, especially on "II", where huge waves of orchestral synths soar over a bed of raging guitar riffs, before wolf howls, fire sounds, and ghostly wind noises bring things to a chilling and isolated finale. The only real appearance of vocals (if you want to call them that) are the evil rasps on "I", and the final piece, "III", is 13-minutes of ominous synth washes with bird chirps and other sorts of nature sounds fluttering about the mix.
For traditional black metal lovers, A Glimpse of Glory is going to be too meditative, too atmospheric, and too ambient to get your extreme blood pumping. However, those into the mellower aspects of the genre might find a lot to like here. Mood music it certainly is!
