Pompa Manga, the newest release by Inferno, is a funny album. It's not because of any purposeful humor, like satire or sound clips, but rather because it's so immature, amateur and ridiculous, I can't believe anyone involved was seriously trying to make music. It is totally devoid of any talent or reason to exist. In fact, this will likely be the shortest review I've ever written because there is so little to say about this album, and it deserves so little attention, that I don't even wantto write anymore.
The entire "record" can be summarized as follows: Pompa Manga is the audio equivalent of having a screwdriver shoved in your head by the Devil. It's one of the most annoying, pointless and laughably bad pieces of "music" I've ever heard. Imagine the 8-bit NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) version of a jackhammer at work, mixed with electronica and some moron shrieking over it. That's all this album is, I promise. Alright, the time signatures change a bit and there are some guitar riffs that could be interesting if, say, Dream Theater used them, but unfortunately, Inferno are in charge, and all they managed to do was create the perfect soundtrack for Mario disemboweling Bowser with a chainsaw and then raping the princess.
I like to think that my musical tastes are extremely varied, and I am not opposed to extreme metal at all. Furthermore, I'm not even against screaming/growling if it's done well and purposefully, like say Agalloch or Opeth, who have perfected the use of exteme vocals in progressive styled dark metal. Similarly, if the screaming is done sparingly for comedic effect and always over great music (a la Devin Townsend), it can also work. But Inferno is a different case. These guys will do nothing but annoy and anger the hell out of you with this pitiful, pointless and punishing excuse for an album. Inferno, I hope, are destined to be left behind in the annals of musical history, and my own copy of the album is destined to be left in my trash can.
