This is essentially a tribute album by three US bands. Harvestman is the brainchild of Steve von Till who normally plays guitar with art-metal outfit, Neurosis. Harvestman tend to blend heavy psychedelic riffs with folk-rock. US Christmas hail from the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina and have 5 or more albums to their credit. Meanwhile Minsk are a rich and darkly psychedelic post-metal quartet hailing from Chicago with a similar level of previous output.
Triad is a tribute to their British influence and as you might expect they have taken their own twist in presenting these supernova from the Hawkwind firmament. The net result is a dirtier, more aggressive approach, particularly in the vocal style which is far more in-yer-face than the spaced-out ethereal presentation of their predecessors. Other than that the music and lyrics stay true to the original compositions. If you need another take on Hawkwind, this is worth a listen, although I'd have to say I'd prefer to listen to the originals if I had the urge. Nonetheless it's a good introduction to some US space-metal/stoner bands with a good heritage who you may otherwise not have come across and if it encourages you to explore their original music it will have been worth the production.
