Fury UK: A Way Of Life
Album number three from Hard Rocking trio Fury UK finds them building on the momentum of the last twelve months that saw considerable acclaim for album number two, VR, and tours with MSG and Blaze Bayley that exposed them to a wider audience. A Way Of Life evidences their development both as songwriters and musicians and, with a ten minute plus number to close the album, there is an air of self-assured confidence that will stand them in good stead as they seek to progress to the next level.
This is modern Metal that harkens back to the NWOBHM and bands such as Diamond Head, Holocaust, Raven and Di Anno fronted Iron Maiden. Galloping riffs, blistering solos and some truly thunderous bass and drums are topped off by Chris Appleton's urgent and frazzled vocal delivery where each and every word is clearly audible – exactly as it should be. "I See Red" explodes from the speakers and Fury UK are off and running with a bang, Chris' technical prowess being immediately highlighted with just one of many bursts of shredding. The tempo drops for the moody "One God" with its pulsing riff and swampy bass provided by Luke Appleton. Fury UK have built something of a following in Greece and "Athena" is dedicated to their Greek fans; a gentle acoustic intro provides a nice contrast before the track builds into a fist pumping anthem. The six minute "Run Away From No One" and aforementioned closer "The Remainder" are a good indication at what is still to come from this band – slow burning, well crafted epics that ebb and flow between mood and tempo, unveil more with each repeated listen and are both absolute gems.
A lengthy UK tour is planned for the end of the year including support shows with Y&T; keep an eye on Fury UK they will be around for a long time yet.
