Stone Sour: Audio Secrecy

Corey Taylor is one talented guy, there is no denying that he has been blessed with the pipes of an angel and the growl of a pissed off banshee wailing in a darkened forest. Audio Secrecy is the bands difficult third album; however nothing is difficult when Mr. Taylor and masked partner Jim Root join forces again to create what could be Audio Pornography!

Many would have already been subjected to a couple of tracks off Audio Secrecy, as 'Mission statement" and 'Say you'll Haunt Me' have already had live rotation and radio play so a dip into the bowl of delights has already given you a taste. Now it's time to plunge your fist into that bowl and feed with greed on the albums meaty metal goodness. From the offset what is apparent is that Stone Sour have not lost that skill to create soaring melodies combined with hostile angry growls layered with a metallic bed of riffs and bomb blast beats.

'Digital (Did You Tell?)' has that anthem, fists in the air feel and goddamn it another killer chorus. This is as you would expect an all together different outlet for the Slipknot pair, Stone Sour lets them release their various influences and loves in music in an altogether more colourful expression. Hell, there's even some blues influence going on in 'Miracles' a slow Jack on the rocks affair. Mixed up in the havoc of multi layered melodies, bridges and roaring riffs is a scattering of acoustic influenced numbers, 'imperfect, & 'Dying' are certainly lighters in the air moments. The balance between heavy and mellower numbers is near spot on; don't get me wrong there are some crushing balls out heavy riffs that would cause you severe neck pain.

The fourteen track metal marathon ends with 'Threadbare', stay with it for a climax worthy of a five rating alone with what can be described as a monumental avalanche of riff power with Corey soaring ever higher singing his fucking lungs dry. Audio Secrecy has just made my 2010 top ten list even harder to compile, this year has been a cracker for album releases and Stone Sour have added to it. Without doubt this is a powerhouse of an album, Stone Sour's third and best yet…Difficult third album? Dream on!!
