Coriolis: The Endless Funeral
Christian Industrial Rock band Coriolis have released a new full length CD entitled, The Endless Funeral, a dark adventure into the 5 year journey that is vocalist/founder, Jonathan P. Stamets' life. A concept album of sorts, based on his life, the songs are filled with a lot of cynicism, bitterness, and anger, basically everything that Christian musicians are told to avoid. There is no uplifting message contained within but rather just the gritty, dark truth of an angry, confused man.
Fans of bands like Stabbing Westward, KMFDM and Nine Inch Nails will enjoy the metallic, Industrial stomp that Coriolis provide. Vocals range from an almost Type O Negative, Peter Steele delivered low Vampire rumble to that familiar Trent Reznor/Marilyn Manson/Rammstein cadence. Very familiar and intact are the sounds that are on The Endless Funeral, from the keyboard/synth driven eeriness of "Everything Must Go", to the 9 plus minutes of the dark "See You In Hell".
Using the best of what German bands like Die Krupps and Rammstein have perfected, US based Coriolis have indeed released a record that is very much UNlike any other proclaimed Christian band. Filled with somber and dark imagery throughout this CD, this is a look at the harshness and truth that life has to give. This is a well polished and produced record with decent songs, but none of them seem to really grab you. There seems to have been more thought into what the story of Stamets ordeal of life, than to have songs that could stand alone. If you are an Industrial Music fan, give this a shot, but if not you will probably find yourself a bit bored.
