Trinity is the new release for Timo Tolkki and his band Revolution Renaissance, the melodic power metal group he formed after departing from the long running Stratovarius. What is surprising is that it's also the last; it's all over as Revolution Renaissance is now no more. Timo has put it down to a lack of support so he has decided not to continue, and you can read what he has written on the matter below.
As posted on Timo's MySpace page:
"Due to my private problems, the lack of interest in Revolution Renaissance shown by the promoters, and the current situation in the music industry that affects to everything including the production budgets, it has become impossible to continue the band. We have tried to book shows in these last three years, but we haven't been able to do so. A rock band cannot exist without direct contact to its fans. Therefore, I have no other choice but to make the decision to stop the band and its activities due to the above mentioned reasons. The third and final album of the band will be released at the end of September. From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank all the fans of my music throughout the years. It's been a great journey."
It is quite a shame as really Revolution Renaissance were a good band, and not for lack of trying either as Timo has released three albums with Revolution Renaissance since leaving Stratovarius. There is plenty of engaging music on Trinity, like that on the heavy "Marching With Fools", Timo's solo is impressive, including a vibrant duel with keyboardist Bob Katsionis. "The World Doesn`t Get To Me" has a rocking Strato feel, "Crossing the Rubicon", "Dreamchild" and especially the epic title track "Trinity" which again could easily be a Stratovarius tune, are all good songs. I thought the vocals were better on the previous CD Age Of Aquarius as here on Trinity there are moments when I just felt the singer was out of his range and should have stuck to his comfort zone. Just an observation, but otherwise they do the job.
So where to next for Timo? You would think he will be back but who knows, though the last part of his statement reads like he may not. So for fans of Timo Tollki's work and Revolution Renaissance Trinity could be labeled a collector's item that also happens to be a likeable melodic metal CD.
