Dååth return to the scene with their fourth album, although exactly how many people noticed 2009's The Concealer is open to debate and to some extent makes this eponymous record quite crucial in the wider context of the group's career.
The good news is that this is a high quality release; it's not going to re-define the genre by any means but it's just what the doctor ordered at this time in Dååth's lifespan. The production is uniformly excellent and the drums in particular threaten to pummel the listener through the wall into the next room. That said, the vocals are in just the right place in the mix which is somewhat unusual in the more extreme genres. This is a real bonus as we can actually hear what vocalist Sean Zatorsky is trying to communicate to us.
Special marks must also go to guitarists Eyal Levi (who also co-produced) and Emil Werstler who provide fluid but not over played soundscapes to all the songs on offer. As appears to be the way with so many albums these days it's very difficult to pick out individual songs although I've had "The Decider" creeping up my iTunes counter, however, as Hot Chocolate may have said with this record in mind, "Everyone's a Winner."
