Inquisition: Into the Infernal Regions of the Ancient Cult
Hellsheadbangers has been mass releasing loads of sub-par albums in the last few months. There was a bunch of their promos that I got recently and I was thinking I'll have to endure more of that again. Well, what do you know! This time around, they managed to come up with some good stuff, finally! One of those was the new release of this 1998 album from black metal veterans, Inquisition. These guys came out in the second wave of the 90's scene.
Inquisition did not re-invent the black metal genre; they have just put together some decent compositions and infuse them with attitude and wickedness. This is Satanic black metal that comes with ritualistic samplings. These might not be truly realistic, although working well in the context of the songs. Bone crushing is the guitar work; the arpeggios are cold and distorted; the drum parts are punchy, while some twisted /robotically monotonous, but efficient, raspy vocals are include in each songs. To make things even better, the pace is usually in the moderate range. Even if this music is somewhat repetitive and simplistic, it still is pretty effective in conveying their Satanic message to the black metal mass.
Into the Infernal Regions of the Ancient Cult was a nice surprise after all. I enjoyed many of those sick tunes. My favorites are: "The Initiation" and "Solitary Death in Nocturnal Woodlands". The first one threw me off when I heard the acoustic guitars, while the second one is the most crushing number to be heard.
