Debut album from musican / instrumentalist / composer Michel "Jelonek" Jelonek comes courtesy if Polish label Mystic Productions and, as you may have guessed, is an entirely instrumental affair that blends Classical with Rock and retains that distinctive Eastern European flavour. With Apocalyptica now garnering widespread acclaim there is evidently a niche for this type of cross over and Jelonek is clearly one of any number of similar endeavours from the East that are looking to follow in their slipstream. That said, unlike with the aforementioned band, there is little here that will find much favour within the Metal community as it largely goes for a more mainstream vibe that brings to mind someone like Vanessa Mae. It's all beautifully played and well crafted but, ultimately, very one dimensional.
Whilst this is the debut album under his own name Jelonek is a veteran of more than 1500 classical live performances and 20 albums in his homeland and this will certainly appeal to those with whom his name is already familiar. Whilst a refreshing listen at times this will have limited appeal overall and for those without a real passion for the violin there is really little point in checking this out further.
