Founded in Holland in 2008, the former members of Shiver, Harrow, Marathon and Vandenberg banded together to form a new Melodic Rock band called The Flow. Coming from musical backgrounds of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, The Flow are a strong edged Rock band with melodic sensibilities and an element of musical exploration. The fusion of a little Pop, a little straight ahead Rock with a bit of good ol' Hard Rock riffage makes this self financed debut, No Guarantees, a good listen.
The Flow are Jos Zoomer (Drums/Percussion), Jacques Suurmond (Bass Guitar), Erik de Boer (Guitar) and Marten Jan Rerink (Vocals/Guitar) and while their formula is not exactly earth shattering, their songs are pretty solid and that's all that matters. That straight ahead Hard Rock sound is evident straight away from the opening notes of CD opener, "Greed", with it's Brother Cane like riffing that harkens back to a modern day take on that '70's feel. Songs like "Start Bleeding" allow The Flow to be able to stretch out a bit more and blend in a bunch of different time changes to a cool groove with a nasty guitar riff. While the title track, "No Guarantees", shows off some excellent vocal harmonies and a more diverse side to the band.
No Guarantees is a quality 10 track debut that fans of guitar driven, melodic rock will find a gem. The unsigned The Flow have with their mature sounding songs and good production, make this is a solid record by veteran musicians. They don't reinvent the wheel, but then again, does every band need to?! Check out the CD, available for download at their own website, www.theflow-online.nl or at www.cdbaby.com.
